The Story Behind the Colony

Why I started building ant setups that balance function and design.

I got into ants when I was about 13. I used to spend time outside trying to find a colony of my own. At first, I thought the bigger ants I found were queens. They weren't. That pushed me to learn more.

After a lot of trial and error, I finally got my first queen, a Lasius niger. Watching a colony grow from nothing completely changed how I saw it. It also taught me responsibility early on. Feeding them, giving them space, keeping things stable.

When I left for college, I gave my colony to someone who could continue taking care of them properly.

While I was in college, I started noticing something. Most formicariums on the market work, but they are not something you really want to show off. They focus on function, but design gets left behind.

That's where this started.

I wanted to build setups that do both. Something that works the way it should, while also looking clean and intentional on your desk.

Function comes first. Your ants need a stable, low stress environment to thrive. Design matters too.

Everything is designed and tested with that in mind. Products I would use myself. This is what I wish I had when I started.

Thank you for being part of this. Every bit of support adds to the trail and helps guide where this goes next.
